          The way it was ?
                    By Gene Welch

---------------------------------------------------------------

In the beginning there were MEN(and WOMEN(and CHILDREN, too).
They were known as 'HUMANITY'. Their personal puzzles( called
LIFE) would all have been complete, were it not for one missing
piece. So it was, they were visited upon by the great god
'COLECO'. COLECO looked down on this mass of humanity, and saw
that they were lacking. COLECO was a kind, loving(and greedy)
god, who felt pity for the masses. So it was that COLECO be-
stowed upon(sold to) the masses his only son, 'ADAM'. ADAM so
loved the masses that he did much good work with them. And the
masses so loved ADAM, that they worshipped COLECO as the god he
knew he was.In turn, COLECO gave the masses many tools to use
with ADAM, and even more good work was accomplished. But soon,
COLECO grew resentful of the masses and their love of ADAM.
And so it was that COLECO abandoned his son ADAM, and turned his
back on the masses. Never to feel their love again. The masses
were quickly overcome by feelings of bewilderment and betrayal.
But soon the masses rallied back, adopted ADAM as one of their
own and learned to live without COLECO. Before long, the masses,
with ADAM by their side(and on their desks), were accomplishing
even more.

An annual celebration was started to honor ADAM and his relation-
ship with humanity, known as ADAMCON. In time, the masses
learned to build new and better tools for ADAM. Making their
adopted son even more useful.Humanity and ADAM flourished. A
match made in heaven. Through thick and thin, good times and
bad times, and even humanities never ending struggle with MURPHY
(and his ever debilitating law), ADAM was always there. And so
it was that the story of ADAM and his devotion to humanity spread
far and wide, as if on the silken threads of a WEB. ADAM,
virtually immortalized for all of eternity and for all to know,
on the WEB.

         THE END
